No matter how subtle the stereotype we can find them, such as the more subtle ones like the Siamese cats in “Lady and the Tramp (1955)” which are about Chinese stereotypes (Young) and also the more apparent ones like the red Indians in “Peter Pan”. How can one tell they are intentional? Some were made that greatly shows stereotypical intent, such as the shorts made during war times like “Commando Duck” defaming the Japanese and quite openly too. Many even used the most racial dialects to represent the stereotypes, making it even harder to refute the racial undertones. If even the language of the extremely racist characters fit the stereotype, how can you say it’s not intentional? Why are these stereotypes being depicted in our movies bad for the audience? It changes the way we see ourselves and the way we see others. Whites Americans start seeing themselves as more superior, even going so far to denounce the readings of other ethnic groups as subpar despite being the same skill level as the whites.
