Examples Of Racial Injustice

This essay represents my views on how discrimination and racial injustice have influenced people; especially African Americans to be defensive and sensitive to matters pertaining to racism and how to avoid racial conflict. We encounter racism everywhere we go; in our schools, place of work, and even in our communities. How are we as a society going to commune with one another without being steered as a racist? One relives racism each day and some might not know their words and actions portray racism. Racism has been an issue since the century of slavery and has oppressed the lives of many young African Americans. In order for one to avoid racial conflict, it is essential to acquire knowledge and understanding of racism in general. Racism has many definitions; this article’s definition says “Racism is a form of oppression in which one racial group dominates other” (DiAngelo 2012 pg.17) I found Jim’s case in relation to this article which demonstrates how “Racism can be subtle or overt, it can be intentional or unintentional, and it can be conscious or unconscious. Actions can be racist. Policies can be racist and arguably even whole countries can be racist” (Glasgow 2009 pg.64). That could have been Jim’s case. He probably walked toward the car with good intensions and asked a question which he thought was okay, but the man found it to be provoking and insulting.
