Examples Of Racial Inequality In Today's Society

Decent Essays
A problem in today's society is racial inequality. Almost daily, we see cases on the news where someone has been shot by the opposite race, or a White Cop shoots a Black Male or vice-versa, and someone says the suspect had done nothing wrong while he’s either resisting arrest or pulling some kind of object out of their waist or pocket. Today’s society feels they have to be so politically correct and feel they need to against everything. We’re always seeing on the news of riots or protests of people holding signs saying either: #WhiteLivesMatter, #BlackLivesMatter, and #AllLivesMatter. The truth is, all lives matter and it doesn’t matter who you are, what you are, and who you like or dislike. Everyone thinks they're better than the other, when …show more content…
I would be willing to help solve this problem with all this “racial inequality” that exists. I am entering a Police Academy once I turn 20 ½ or 21 and I hope to be able to ease up the hate and racism between others, between opposite races, and against cops. Police officers have been seen as a negative influence on the public because of all the recent officer-involved shootings that have been happening. We always see in the news of protests of people against police brutality and then having police officers and S.W.A.T. teams showing up with riot gear on to protect themselves and other innocent bystanders. Some people do not understand that there are good cops out there, but the bad ones give the good ones a bad wrap. The other day, I was talking to my School Resource Officer and he had brought up that he had to make an arrest before he arrived at school because the suspect was related to a few recent car break-ins and theft. He had told me that he had to respond to this call, which was a black male about 6ft tall, matching the description that the caller had given dispatch, the officer wasn’t worried, the suspect surrendered without any resistance, and everyone was

Since January 1st of last year, 1,502 people were shot and killed by a police officer on duty in America. Of those deaths, 381 were African American. Although that number doesn’t seem very large at first glance, the African American population only makes up 13% of the overall U.S population, making this statistic quite alarming (Lowery, 2016). Police brutality towards African American’s has been a prevalent issue in recent years, which in-turn has created a movement referred to as Black Lives Matter. The message behind Black Lives Matter is that every person deserves equal rights and treatment, no matter their skin color or race.…

My favorite quote was by Scott Woods. A close second was Desmond Tutu’s, followed by Samuel L. Jackson’s. a. In Scott Woods’ quote, he dismantling the idea that racism is only “big R racism,” meaning that racism is only grand, hateful actions like the lynching of black people by KKK. Woods is saying that racism is not solely these incredibly hateful acts of violence, but racism persists through the institutions and systems created by the country.…

Recent cases such as Trayvon Martin (teenager shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer), Freddie Gray (died of a spinal cord injury while in custody), and Michael Brown (shot by a police officer after being accused of robbing a convenience store) have raised our consciousness regarding racial profiling. Black men face greater dangers when dealing with law enforcement and/or the public at large. Some good has come of these high-profile cases, with police reforms taking place across the country. New training techniques and programs like community policing are being utilized to help reduce violent encounters and help protect both officers and citizens. We can support and honor the service of the police community while, at the same time, expecting…

Almost every day, a story will be published regarding a cop shooting a person of color due to preconceived notions and stereotypes that they are bad people. The United States was founded on the belief that all people will be “protected by the equal laws of a common government,” (Document 1). These words have not been held true since being written in 1796. In the time between then and now, there have been slaves, the civil rights movement, and the Black Lives Matter organization. In the two hundred and twenty-two years since the nation founded itself on the basis of equality, there have been many movements and even a war revolving around the human rights of people of…

”Every day I wake up knowing that my life is in danger ten times more than the average white man”(LaRon Fontenot). An African American cannot walk into predominantly white neighborhood without be discriminated by a white person. For example, a young black male, Trayvon Martin, had his freedom to live his life taken away from him by a white man who assume that he was harmful by the clothing he was wearing and the color of his skin. The murder of Trayvon Martin was an enormous struggle for the blacks all across the world. Due to that devastating catastrophe, blacks came together and started “The Black Lives Matter Movement.”…

Racial Inequality in America: A Disease Dr. King is Determined was Cure Waiting, something Dr. King thought African Americans around the country had done long enough. King wrote a flawless letter called “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” concerning the racial inequalities in America. King did this by emotionally connecting the reader in a real way by using pathos, showing his credibility, authority, and respect for others repeatedly throughout the letter by using ethos, demonstrating how his argument is logical, and how racial inequality affects African Americans as a whole and as individuals using inductive reasoning, and lastly, he addressed the opposing side throughout his letter with the absence of fallacies.…

Some cops may not have racist intentions in their line of work but their job is to protect and serve without racial bias. It is undebatable that there are no possible reforms that will eliminate all evil in American policing. Similar to Ta-Nehisi Coates reaction, seeing a picture of a black boy hug an officer does not inspire hope but masks how people of color really feel towards officers. Explaining to people who do not see police officers as a threat why they are a threat is uncomfortable and should be obvious. “There is nothing uniquely evil in these destroyers or even in this moment.…

People from all walks of life have been subject to the injustice that is police brutality for what seems to be forever. Even after the Jim Crow laws were removed, people of color are still being mistreated by police brutality but of course, the assault charges had nothing to do with “race”. Many people (myself included) believe that police officers should be held accountable for their actions whilst on duty. It appears to be that many of the occurances of police brutality stems from a racial bias aginst black people in particular. But whatever the reason may be for these shameful displays of how police should be protecting its people, its rather clear that this needs to stop sooner, rather than later.…

"As murders have spiked by 17 percent among the 50 biggest states in the U.S. as a result of cops being more reluctant to police neighborhoods out of fear of being labeled as racists," (Bandler, 2016). The effect of the activist movement known as Black Lives Matter creates more discrimination than it does to prevent as it provides false accusations which surfaces the new idea that if any life is to matter, it should be all of them. It is crazy to think that this society has come to so much hatred. After one whole year the most well-known places in this country have become 17 percent more dangerous because of racism, yet somehow it is viewed as the fault of the authorities. Every single day one goes throughout their daily routine, someone somewhere…

A Lot of people turn a blind eye to things not connecting them to racism, even when it's obvious. The moment you visually see a black male lying on the ground with his hands up and still getting shot by a police officer, then when asking “why’d you shot me?” and the response is “ I don’t know…”, and people still create excuses for the cop to be let free is disgusting. Turning on your television and seeing groups of college kids protest because they feel their white voices are being oppressed, and Chanting “White power” with others throwing racial slurs and wearing “KKK” attire, while carrying a Nazi flag is saddening. Then watch African American still having to explain why you don’t stand and pledge to the flag, being told “you're disrespecting to all soldiers who fought for you” being yelled at, spat on and called cruel names, being told it is your right not to stand but be still being shamed by it.…

Racial Injustice Needs To Stop Racial injustice started a long time ago and still happens today. Asian racial injustice is shown in 1882 with the Chinese Exclusion Act, which did not allow the Chinese to travel to the United States. But in most cases it’s evident that what these officers do, is not within their job description. Before some of us were born, the issue with Rodney King transpired. Some young people, like myself, hadn’t heard of this case before, so after doing extensive research I can say without exaggerating that I am utterly astonished and disgusted. You’d think that after choosing a topic like this, I’d understand more, but the truth is that we won’t ever get accustomed to the way police officers act sometimes. Allow me to give you a brief insight to what happened the night of March 3, 1991.…
