Racism Today For hundreds of years, many people around the world have suffered slavery. Even though the origins of slavery came to be hundreds to thousands of years ago, it is still an issue to this very day. Slavery does not happen to people today, as most of the countries in the world have set rules to settle equality between ethnicities. Slavery isn’t much of a problem anymore, but racism is. Although most of the world set laws of equality between ethnicities, there is still a majority of the world that is racist.…

My general feelings about racism and white privilege is that it still exists in today’s society. I honestly am fortunate to have a phenotypic appearance of the white race. I can’t imagine the daily discrimination people of color receive. Many examples of white privilege are in large part the result of the privilege of being perceived as an individual rather than as a member of a racial group (Koppleman, 2014, p. 185). The book referenced Steven Spielberg being seen as a director, but Spike Lee is seen as a Black film director.…

In the United States, we have a fairly common practice of Institutionalized racism, which is the system of inequality based on race, and unfortunately it happens more than you would expect. It occurs in institutions such as Public Governments, Private Corporations, and of course Universities. The term Institutionalized Racism was first introduced in the late 1960’s by Black Power activists Stokely Carmichael and Charles V. Hamilton. This term was defined by William Macpherson to mean, The Collective of failure of an organization to provide an appropriate and professional service to people because of their color, culture, or ethnic origin.…

Common Assessment Essay Even though racial profiling is unconstitutional in America, it still exists today for different reasons. One example of racial profiling is a woman from Ohio, who is suing the FBI because she was yanked off an airplane due to her ethnicity. Her and two men were targeted as potential terrorists because of their suspicious activities and their specific skin color. There were many different organizations involved in this lawsuit that could be looked at as an iron triangle.…

So with this in mind take an omniscient view of the social hierarchy in America. Minorities in this country have made historic milestones in order to have the rights and status that they have today. Although those advancements in American culture are truly substantial discrimination has yet to dissipate. White people live in a metaphorical bubble, and the message that is trying to be conveyed is that there are countless forms of racism and discrimination that White Americans will never have to concern themselves about. The impact of this social institution is significant in our culture.…

Brutal and senseless injustice towards blacks has been a reoccurring theme in this great nation since the beginning of slavery as a result of a superior complex that a lot of whites had. Even after the end of slavery, which created more opportunities for the advancement of blacks, they were still not viewed as equal in the eyes of many and along with the growing progression of minorities, came growing anger and jealousy from their white neighbors. Black lives were not as valuable as any Caucasian man, woman or child and some whites considered it insulting to even attempt to compare the two. African Americans had been oppressed for so long, that it seemed that that was the way of life and anything that suggested otherwise was wrong and needed…

Blacks are still being discriminated against and are still not equal in today's society. According to USA Today, “Arrest rates are lopsided almost everywhere. Only 173 of the 3,538 police departments USA Today examined arrested black people at a rate equal to or lower than other racial groups”(USA Today). This is a prime example of white privilege because it shows that in 4% of police stations, they didn't arrest more blacks than other races. This tells is that white people think that white privilege is gone but, although not many people seem to realize it, the statistics clearly show blacks being discriminated against through arrest like in the 1900’s.…

Institutional Racism Over the last century, America has taken legislative action to prevent acts of racism and discrimination from penetrating society. Laws such as the 1964 civil rights act were established to provide equal treatment to all, regardless of race, gender or ethnic background. In 1954 the Supreme court ruled on the case, “Brown V Board of Education” stating “We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of 'separate but equal ' has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal” (Administrative office of U.S. courts, 2016). While these laws eliminated many forms of segregation and racism, tension between minority and majority dominant groups still remains in American society.…

Just like history always does, it is repeating itself. In all technicality, black people now have the same legal rights as white people, but just because it’s official by the legislative branch doesn’t mean that people all over America are jumping up and down at the end of racial injustice- they’re either still finding ways to be corrupt, or trying to find the ones being corrupt. America is somehow said to be a “country of equality”- unfortunately the sweetest of words always have the bitterest taste. Racial prejudice surely has gone down since King’s demonstrations, but it still exists as one of the country’s biggest problems, and it keeps growing and growing into what it use to…

A Lot of people turn a blind eye to things not connecting them to racism, even when it's obvious. The moment you visually see a black male lying on the ground with his hands up and still getting shot by a police officer, then when asking “why’d you shot me?” and the response is “ I don’t know…”, and people still create excuses for the cop to be let free is disgusting. Turning on your television and seeing groups of college kids protest because they feel their white voices are being oppressed, and Chanting “White power” with others throwing racial slurs and wearing “KKK” attire, while carrying a Nazi flag is saddening. Then watch African American still having to explain why you don’t stand and pledge to the flag, being told “you're disrespecting to all soldiers who fought for you” being yelled at, spat on and called cruel names, being told it is your right not to stand but be still being shamed by it.…

Discrimination in the 1930’s Throughout history, African Americans have struggled with equal rights since the beginning of the United States of America. They were treated as if they were less than the Europeans. Jim Crow laws are the laws that allow African Americans to be treated in this way. Many court cases were fought to reverse the treatment of Blacks in everyday life. The civil rights movement was started in the 1950s to change the way African Americans were viewed.…

As John Locke once said “[A]ll mankind... being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his [or her] life, health, liberty or possessions.” Stated above, people born of this world are given natural rights regardless of gender or ethnicity, and no one can impinge them. However, throughout the timeline of American history, there have been numerous instances that contradict this natural equality. It has become apparent that one race ostensibly ‘rules all’ and is dominant in every which way. It can be traced to the first case of slavery, discrimination, abuse, and simple hatred ever so present today.…
