Do you believe that Race, Class, Gender, and Culture can influence the way you pursue your American dream? Well in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald there are many examples of RCGC affecting their American dream. In particular, I will be talking about three characters. Those three characters are Gatsby, Daisy, and also Tom.

In The Great Gatsby, Gatsby's class and culture affected his American Dream. Gatsby or as birth name James Gatz didn't like who or how his parents were, stated in the book "His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people – his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all." James Gatz made a complete lie up on his background. He believed coming from the poor family in a lower class and coming from that culture would have people look down at him and that he wouldn't be able to do what he wants in his future so he became jay gatsby from the west egg with dead rich parents.He believed doing

Tom does make some racist comments "Nowadays people begin by sneering at family life and family institutions, and next they'll throw everything overboard and have intermarriage between black and White".This statements that tom says is not only racist but it kinda gives you a look into how that time period was. Black and white people couldn't even marry which makes you question what else black people can do.For that fact how would a black person be able to pursue the American dream.If you can't even marry someone from a different race how would it be to work or try and get higher in society,Many people of this time would look down at black people still and not what to mix with them which makes it hard to do things.Others perspective makes an impact on how u want to be if someone is always getting treated badly they wouldn't think anything better of them self.So race at this time did have an impact on people's pursuit of an American
