Interpersonal skills are crucial for a healthcare professional to obtain. When there is a lack of interpersonal skills, disruptive behaviors may occur. Disruptive behaviors are any behaviors that can hinder a professional from providing optimal service. Some examples of some disruptive behaviors can be: refusal to perform assigned tasks, uncooperative attitudes, or displaying unjustified power over another colleague. When asked what Danny looks for in a potential worker in behavioral health, he said, “I look for someone who is caring and who has a heart for the clients and has compassion.” Danny stated that having compassion for others is vital when working in the healthcare setting because some of these clients have no family and no one to talk to.
Different point of views is common within colleagues in the workplace. There will always be circumstances in which someone thinks they could have handled a situation better.
