Pride instills an illusion of perfection in people, and this paper-thin image it creates is vulnerable to be torn by the slightest impact. Throughout the world’s history, countless people get tempted by the cause of pride. Their judgments were clouded as a result of hubris. In particular, the narrator from the short story, “The Scarlet Ibis”, famous cyclist Lance Armstrong, and legendary leader Julius Caesar exemplify that people who allow pride to consume them will make irrational choices that lead to regrettable consequences.

Even his own beloved wife was called foolish by warning him, it’s stated, “Calpurnia is sure that her dream means that Caesar is going to be killed, but Caesar is not convinced”. He believes that his power is immortal and he should never be killed. However, it is these clouded judgments that resulted in his assassination. If only he humbly listened to the warnings he wouldn't have put himself in such situation. Thus, pride cloud people’s mind to make regrettable judgments. “Pride erects a little kingdom of its own and act as sovereign in it.” Pride obscured the narrator of “The Scarlet Ibis”, Lance Armstrong, and even one of the greatest leader on earth, Julius Caesar. This illustrated that those who allow pride to take over them will make clouded judgments to be regretted for. Prideful people are blinded people of one color, that is the illusion of perfection, which they use every inch of their body to maintain. This prevented them to see

Lance Armstrong is not your average Tour de France winner. He is a gifted athlete, a cancer survivor and a philanthropist. Despite his story and the obstacles he has overcome, Armstrong’s behaviors are understood when viewed through a psychological lens of cognitive theories, developmental theories and personality theories. A good example of this is when he tells Doodle that he is going to teach him to walk and when he asks why he says so that he doesn't have to haul him around everywhere. Then in the middle of the story, the narrator says "I did not know that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death.". That quote tells us that he knows that Doodle died because he pushed him way too hard.…
