The observation is about the preschool program at Pasadena City College Child Development Center, located at 1324 E Green Street, Pasadena, California. The Center is funded by the state and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The preschool program is serving children between two and half to four and half years old. During this observation, there are twenty-nine children in the classroom. There are five teachers, Ms.Kassandra, Ms.Mikki, Ms.Melissa, Ms.Katie, and Mr.Alex. It is the snack time when the observation has started. All five teachers are sitting with seven to four children at the five different tables, helping and supervising the children while they are eating and cleaning up.
In addition to the five teachers, there are a total of eight field practice students. During the snack time, two students are assigned to sit at each table, observing and helping if children need some assistance. Also, there are two other observers during the observation. This observation is conducted from the snack time, the small group time, the large group time, and beginning of the child initiative time. The toys and materials are sorted by the categories; all the same size crayons are in the same tubs, same kind of blocks are in the same basket, same white boards are stacked up in the same place, and all magnifying glasses are in a container. The materials are taken care of well. Although most of the materials and toys don’t look new, broken pieces or cracks are not found from the observation. In the outside area, there is no garbage as well as inside. The outside toys are organized by items in each box. The bathroom is located between the two rooms with two doors from both sides. There is no garbage on the floor. The children’s artworks are displayed on the wall which make more comfortable for
