Examples Of Prejudice In To Kill A Mockingbird

Prejudice, preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. This definition means that people will judge, give an opinion, before they know anything about something or someone. In Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many examples of prejudice throughout the story. Whether it be with Scout being ridiculed for being a tomboy, or Boo Radley being judged without anyone ever knowing or seeing him. Even with Atticus’s case and everyone judging him for helping a black man, and even with calpurnia. There is a lot of prejudice within this book, people prejudging before they even know the facts. One of the prime examples of prejudice with on the story has to do with racism. Atticus Finch took the case where a black man is on trial, which is making a lot of people hate Atticus and hate the man on trial before they even know anything about the man or anything about the case. Scout, a tomboy, sometimes gets told to leave when her brother is hanging out with his guy friend, dill. Something else that happens in the story is that people force being more ladylike on scout, like when Aunt Alexandra say that Scout should be wearing clothes more fit for a girl, and that she should be playing with small stoves, tea sets. It just how people believe a girl should behave, even though they don’t know that Scout doesn't like those kinds of things. People are assuming that she should act like a girl and be lady-like, when in reality she just likes doing what she does. It's just another example of a character in the story being pre judged, discriminated, all because of prejudice things that people
