Power is when you have control over your life and the lives of others. The story, to kill a mockingbird, takes place in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930’s. The main thing that happens in this story is that the main character which is Mayella Ewell has a trial with Tom Robinson. Mayella does win the trial, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she is powerful because of the fact that she is low class and the things her father did to her. Mayella is both powerful and powerless in different ways, she’s powerful regarding race, but she is powerless because of gender and class.
