George Orwell's allegorical novel Animal Farm is an example of how power leads to destruction. One of the main characters, a pig named Napoleon, is decided leader after his farm takes over and runs things by themselves. The ways of the farm are slowly yet suddenly changed throughout the time span of many years. Napoleon made every division, for every animal. Three ways Napoleon's actions led to destruction of the farm are less food, more work, and the fear of death. Napoleon makes changes based off of what he thinks is better for the farm. Orwell states, “Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half”
