*Fear is an emotion that can consume a person’s every thought, action, and movement whilst degrading that person of their moral codes and basic rights. In order to manipulate a large group of people, you need one simple emotion; fear. George Orwell’s novel 1984 depicts a society where an entire country of people is being controlled by “The Party” using fear to scare them into doing what they are told (Orwell). He promised these people change, a kind of change that would put Germany on top of the world and make the other countries pay for what they did during the war. His party began releasing propaganda that said being defeated in the war was the fault of all the Jewish people living in society. They started to attack a group of people because they needed someone to blame for such a tragedy as a loss of war. In 1984 there is a strong force that controls all aspects of life, this is “The Party” (Orwell). The Party is the government of the country and they have taken over the land and now run everything using communistic beliefs and strategies. This government is so strong that it has the power to make people rewrite history which then forces them to believe what they write. People disappear in this society daily and are never seen again. Just like Hitler this would strike fear in the civilians and make them believe everything they are told.
