Disasters put a lot of pressure on everyone that it affects. Every person hearing the news or living through feels some kind of pain. When people are affected, it eventually means politics will have to show its ugly head. Politics and disasters do not mix well at all.
Notably was hurricane Katrina. According to the article, Politics after Katrina, published by Jake Elliott (2010) Katrina was the largest natural disaster to hit the mainland United States to date. Combine this monster storm with the outdated levees resulted in major devastation in every way. This event would change the landscape of politics forever.
