Examples Of Persuasive Essay Over The Crucible

In class we the students of 11th grade were tasked to read a play write over the Crucible, we were asked to then write a paper over said book, choosing from a number of subjects. I chose to debate whether Proctor's choice of hanging from the gallows was vanity, or valiance. We'll start by discussing whether he should have lied , and about the lie. Then we'll move unto what parts we could consider foolish, or prideful. And lastly finish off in speaking about what we could be considered honorable, or noble. We start this discussion with the decision of lying to the Judges of the church. Yet, after all this time holding his tongue, John Proctor has convinced himself to save his life. He discuses what to do with his wife Elizabeth, Telling her “Would you give them such a lie?.. You would not! It is evil, and I do it! He is distressed wondering if he should hold his tongue, and go out with the others. But, not wanting to leave his wife a widowed mother decides to keep his life, believing that he is indeed the …show more content…
He tried to keep his friends guiltless in the eyes of the public, he didn't throe them under the bus like the girls in the beginning of the book did. Even when lying to the Judges he would not condemn anyone but himself to these lies, saying; “they think to go like saints.” he kept their names clean from slander or linking comments to this statement. While trying to keep his friend honor, he also wanted to keep his family's name clean, of course including his own. He went on saying; “ I have three children, how may I teach them to walk like men in the world, and I sold out my friends!” He speaks to his wife saying that he is no saint, that he is a wicked man, but after this he believes himself not to be entirely wicked. After doing this deed, that which must be done will let his children and wife be free, fatherless but free from harshness of the other towns
