Daisy loves riches and lavish lifestyles, and it is likely that Gatsby knows this and tries to utilize his parties as a way to reconnect with her by chance. In the five years that Gatsby and Daisy spent apart, Gatsby was out gaining financial prosperity, all with the hopes of one day being able to reunite with Daisy and sweep her off her feet. When they finally reunite, Gatsby “hadn’t once ceased looking at Daisy”, he finally has her in front of him and can show off everything he worked for, he “revalued” everything based on “the measure of response it drew from her.” (69) This shows that he was not just looking at Daisy for his own enjoyment, but he was analyzing whether or not his lifestyle was lavish enough for her. It shows how much he cares about her opinion and approval, and whether the work he patiently put into building this life was enough. Right to the very end, Gatsby still had faith in his dream, but his overwhelming sense of urgency had already caused the failure of his dream, he refused to acknowledge this and held onto some hope or delusion even, that Daisy would return to him. Gatsby had already had a taste for wealth when he was under the guidance of Dan Cody, and is now determined to perfectly reinvent himself to appeal to Daisy, no matter how long it takes. When the two finally reunite, he is eager to proceed from where they left off and forces this idea onto her as well. He constantly pressures her to make a decision when it is clear she feels unready. The constant pressure puts a massive strain on their relationship, causing Daisy to completely pull away from him. He doesn’t acknowledge this and continues to hold onto the hope that she will return to him in time. When individuals are pursuing their goals, they may feel a sense of urgency to complete it quickly and focus on the time it takes, rather than the quality of the end
