Passion and Pain
Good morning Mr. Grimes and Class. The story of Romeo and Juliet has been told over and over throughout many generations. Parents use this tale to affect how their children see the world and to inform them that the world can be a very cruel place. Shakespeare’s play is about two teenagers who fall in love, get married and commit suicide in the span of three short days. Their love also results in many other deaths. At the start of the play, Romeo was in love with a young woman named Rosaline. He often called her beautiful and told Benvolio, his cousin and friend, how much in love with her he was. Although when we keep reading it is revealed that Rosaline does not return his love due to her chastity vow. When Romeo sees Juliet for the first time he immediately puts her on a pedestal by saying “If I profane with my unworthiest hand. This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this…” (I, V, 92) This informs us that Romeo is swift to love from one woman to the next. He is …show more content…
Friendship and loyalty are two very strong topics in this play. When Romeo is confronted by Tybalt, Mercutio is persistent in fighting Tybalt. That fight ends in his death, and that is the turning point for Romeo because he then proceeds to vow death upon Tybalt. I can honestly say I’ve done some pretty idiotic stuff for my friends - maybe not resulting in my death, but nonetheless. Romeo and Juliet is a play with many themes, some harder to find than others. Love, loss, betrayal, fear, chaos, deceit, anger, hatred, grief, friendship, family, strength, passion, youth and wisdom. All of these things are apart of being human. There are many lessons learned in this play that are essential to growing up. As Shakespeare said: “These violent delights have violent ends...” (II, VI, 9) We make mistakes and we suffer the consequences. And maybe, in the moment, it’s worth it. Thank you for
