Examples Of Observing The Classroom

Improved Essays
Today I observed the class learn about domain and range of a graph. The teacher first began class with a bell ringer. The teacher discussed the answers to the bell ringer with the students. Next the teacher reviewed homework with the students. The students asked any questions they had on the assigned problems. Next the teacher assigned the students an activity on domain and range. The students completed the activity and turned it in. The teacher discussed the activity after all students had completed and turned in the assignment. At the end of the class the teacher praised the students on how well they had started the second nine weeks.
During the class I observed the teacher review the bellringer and homework. The teacher allowed me to work a homework problem on the board for the students. After I observed the teacher review the prior lesson. After the short review, I walked around the classsroom and assisted

The most surprising thing is how the teacher manages her classroom. The teacher really is not that strict when handling her classroom. The students are free to talk to each other even while the teacher is talking. The teacher basically ignores the students who disrupt the classroom. Its unusual because these behaviors usually bother teachers.
Obeserving this week's class has changed my thinking about improving instruction in secondary schools and in mathematics. During the observartion I noticed how different Ms. Husted is than some of my previous math teachers. When lecturing, the teacher I am observing never just tells students how to do problems. The teacher always seems to allow her students to find meaning in the topic being taught. The teacher does this during her lecture by asking strategic

ELAD543 M1 Video Discussion The Seinfeld clip is hysterical, yet it provides valuable points to note regarding delivering a lesson. As students entered the room he did not greet them in a positive manner and when class began his first sentence, “I’ve graded your tests and I have to say I’m a little more than disappointed,” was discouraging. No objective, essential question or anticipatory set was used to engage students into the lesson. When he questioned students and they offered incorrect responses, he did not shut them down; rather, he restated or rephrased the question, which is a good strategy to use.…

Observations: Students were allowed to wear a hat to class if they had paid a dollar. Usually this is not allowed in class. They seemed pretty excited over allowed to wear a hat in the classroom. When the students finally settled in to the classroom, Mrs. Geisheimer gave the students a Do Now. The way she described the assignment was confusing because she told the students to do the right side of the page, but when showing the class the paper, she was pointing to the left side of the page.…

For this observation I observed a second grade classroom at Farmdale Elementary. When I walked into the class they all stopped and waited quietly until the teacher introduced me. Once the teacher introduced me they all greeted me with “Good Morning, Mrs. Tatiana.” I felt the teacher had good classroom management that brought good manners. The class started with reciting Martin Luther king’s speech, she called a couple students to recite it alone.…

Although all of these items may be applicable to children, children are supplied with classroom materials such as, books, pencils, crayons, scissors, papers, etc. In addition, children are also had to follow rules, or procedures that were set up by the head teacher. With regard as the main factors of this class that I observed, I observed the space and its furnishing, language- reasoning, and activities. First, the qualities of the space and its furnishing that were given to the children to create a comfortable classroom environment for their learning and playing.…

As a leader in the field of differentiated instruction, Carol Tomlinson (1999) noted: "For all its promise . . . effective differentiation is complex to use and thus difficult to promote in schools. Moving toward differentiation is a long-term change process" (p. 6). Several years into this change, everyone has heard of differentiated instruction.…

    Guided Math Reflection

Reflection for Week Ten During guided math this week I realized just how big of a gap there is between the higher level learners and the lower level learners in my classroom. Even though I have spent extra time working with the lower level students, they receive academic assistance in the classroom on Fridays, and they receive small group lessons with the math tutor every Wednesday, having the opportunity to work with them daily during guided math put a different perspective on just how much this group of students struggle academically. These students have a difficult time retaining the information they are taught. For example, we have been working on even and odd numbers since the first day of school.…

The content knowledge a teacher must have in order to enact high quality mathematics instruction includes, but is not limited to, place value, quality relationships with students, an understanding of the learning trajectories, and knowing one’s own beliefs and mathematical identity. Knowledge of place value and an understanding of the base-ten system is critical content a teacher must have in order to enact high quality mathematics instruction. In the lower grades where I have taught for seven years, I recognize the importance of a strong base in place value in order to make connections later in addition and subtraction. Roger Howe (2011) writes an article titled “Three Pillars of First Grade Mathematics” about a problem of practice in teaching mathematics to elementary-age children.…

The teacher also posted her classroom rules visible for students to see.…

Response Points Formative assessment is essential for student learning and achievement. This type of assessment permits students to work with the material, while also evaluating their understanding in a grade free environment. The lack of grading reduces the stress that the student is under to not make mistakes. Failing to implement formative assessment leads a teacher to simply talk at their class without ever knowing if they are truly understanding the material. Ultimately, formative assessment should be implemented into all aspects of a unit.…

Introduction: During my time at James A. Whitaker Elementary School in Buena Park Unified School District, I was able to observe Mrs. Solomon’s fourth grade class. Mrs. Solomon makes sure that her class is a very welcoming place. She does so by standing at the door in the morning and personally greeting each and every one of her students. Once each of the students have entered the class, Mrs. Solomon opens the class session by enthusiastically saying, “Welcome back!”…

After being taken to Mrs. Durishs’ classroom, I immediately took notice of the classroom which was a standard biology lab. The black, nonporous lab tables were in five horizontal rows, the three back rows stretching almost the width of the room and the front two rows being split down the middle to act as a walkway through the middle of the classroom. Mrs. Durish had two desks, one in the back of the room and one in the front of the room next to the SmartBoard.…

On Tuesday, November 14, I taught my second math lesson to Mrs. Beach’s fourth grade class. This experience was very unique compared to the first lesson that I taught because Mrs. Beach had a substitute. Thankfully, I kept this in mind and tried to anticipate behavioral issues that would be present because there was a substitute in the classroom. Nevertheless, I felt as though this lesson went way better than the first one, simply because I felt more comfortable with the topic that I was teaching. Furthermore, I kept all of the feedback in mind from teaching my first lesson, so that this lesson could be better.…
