Some children have a harder time to communicate due to numerous reasons that delay their speech. For this reason, I would integrate AAC systems in my classroom for a child who cannot communicate verbally. I would introduce basic ASL (American Sign Language), use pictures for queues and/or electronic communication boards that display communicative messages in form of writing, pictures, lines and letters. A learning disability is defined by the Schwab Foundation as a person who is diagnosed by a professional with a difficulty as a result of a CNS dysfunction in the areas or reading, writing, math, science, reasoning speaking, or listening. He was successfully able to act out the sound effects such as knocking sounds and the differencing voices per character. Ms. Salazar mentioned that the student with autism performed better when he was at a table with female students who were good at staying on task. When asked about the other students being distracted Ms. S responded with “It’s distracting at first when he gets off task and make a scene, however, students go on with their assignments as normal. ”(Salazar 2016).
