I enjoyed reading your response and your interpretation of Emerson’s work. I particularly enjoyed your interpretation of the non-conformist theory. Being a non-conformist myself helps me to feel better about being me. Self-reliance is a great non-conformist attitude as we tend to have our own direction and will not bow to the society “norms”. Being self-reliant tends to contradict societies expectations of us as individuals. The different aspect that you brought to the discussion about conformity helped to illuminate what conformity is. The non-conformist teenager is a great concept that brings to light the way we grow as we mature.
