In the novel of The Great Gatsby it is clear that Nick has a high opinion of Jay Gatsby. The reasons why Nick thought so high opinion of Gatsby is because of all rumors about Gatsby. One of the rumors would be that Gatsby had killed a man before. When the night of Gatsby's party, Nick meets Gatsby for the first time. Nick tells us how Gatsby's smile was maleficent.
