Stereotypes are a part of our everyday life. People hear stereotypes every day and everywhere. Every person, no matter if old or young, is labeled with either positive or negative stereotypes. A stereotype is used to categorize a group of people. By not understanding that type of person, they are put into classifications by society. An example of a negative stereotype would be all Asians are bad at driving. People assume this due to the shape of Asian eyes and bad peripheral vision. Hearing that can hurt a person long term. A positive stereotype would be that all Asians are good at math. Math is something Asians practice over and over until perfection. The other problem also seems to be that people of color in the films are asked to play stereotypical roles- from maids and refugees to hooligans and prostitutes. The misconceptions about groups of people are still being represented in television. These stereotypes are still illustrated on a day-to-day basis even though times have changed. These stereotypes deliver incorrect evidence about groups, do not account for every person, permit older peers to impact younger generations, and affect people in many ways. For example, children can be hurt from advertising because they are too innocent to understand the meaning; they just believe what they see. This can impact how they grow up. Base on the “Kids React” video, I believe there is a chance to overcome these racial stereotypes in our country. As from the video, the color of skin should not be judged, but people should focus more on the character and personality. Kids are pure and innocent, so they do not see anything wrong with a mixed race family. Instead of judging someone in the group and being racist, people should pay more attention to how each an individual is unique in their own way. It is harmful to the environment and social life.
