The federally qualified health center is a community based organization that provides health and human services to individuals and families. The agency offers medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare in a number of different locations in Eastern Connecticut. UCFS serves all populations, from first year to elderly care. Their mission is to improve the health and over all well-being of the community. The behavioral health services that they offer include outpatient and community based behavioral health services. Those services include counseling and psychotherapy, psychiatric assessment & medical management, trauma focuses cognitive behavioral therapy, and behavioral health groups. I was placed in the agencies behavioral health unit, where I work closely with their social leaning department. My role there includes co-facilitating three social leaning groups, shadowing clinician’s intake processes, and preforming ‘co-therapy’ with licensed clinical social workers. I am unable to see clients individually due to insurance boundaries, so my supervisor and I worked together to be able to get as much clinical experience as I can. So we thought that ‘co-therapy’ would be a great fit. I work with a clinician and their client from their intake session until my time at the agency is over. This will help me experience a therapeutic relationship between a client and a clinician, and learn tools and skills that LCSW’s use in their work. Before and after each session the clinician and I meet to discuss the case and the client’s progress. My role at UCFS fueled my desire and confidence to enter the social work profession as a licensed clinical social worker. Observing different clinicians styles and techniques really showed me how effective social workers are in individuals and families lives. They inspired me to want to become a fellow facilitator of change and go on to receive my MSW
