My Educational Journey Have you ever noticed a hesitant, shy, unjustified and confused student in your class? I was just one of them in my middle and elementary school. Just like Mike Rose, I was under estimated by my parents and teachers. I was an average student, who always makes different tactics to encounter the questions of the teacher. I always use a different method to not to get in an eye of the teacher, when I was in elementary school. Every day for me at school was like solving a labyrinth that is going to take forever for me to solve. I was just like in prison, which is created by my own parents. My parents are not so educated; I think that is why they always pressurized me to study. Just like Mike Rose, I was undisciplined …show more content…
Indian education system is very old fashioned and uncreative. Teachers are supposed to do the same syllabus from years ago. Most unacceptable and inadequate thing, it pressurizes the students and they end with cramming. In fact, my own teachers tell us to cram the whole thing in India. If you refused, no one can save you from your teacher stick. As a result, I was a topper on paper but I learned nothing. No matter how strong you are in other field, they just want to see your high scores in exams. From my experience, if you do not cram the whole thing, then your teachers and society will make you believe that you cannot do anything else than selling fruits and vegetable at streets. My story was same as Mike Rose; struggling through an educational system that’s ruins your ability to read and write …show more content…
I supposed to be in the regular algebra class, but I do not know why it happens till now. I never questioned them and tried my best to pass the class. When I hit high school in India, all my goals and aspiration just got disappear from my life. All I wanted to just hang out with my street friends and play cricket. I do not want to do any homework and always beaten by the parents at home and at school by the teachers. I barely passed my all classes. Whenever our family friends or relative come at home, I was the breaking news to debate at. My whole community criticizes me and makes me think that I am below average student. Anyhow, I was very good at science especially at biology just like Rose. I always got 98 to 99 percent marks in tests. At that same time, I was also selected by the Punjab cricket board (PCA) for playing cricket at the state level in under 19 team. In junior year still in India, I jumped one math class on the recommendation of my teacher. I was promoted to the algebra2 class. My teacher name was Sarita Devi; she was so hard and strict. She always hit me with her long and thick stick in winter. I ended with C in her class, but I was extremely happy with that unless my parents come into the play at parent’s teacher meeting. I was embarrassed by my parents and teacher at the conference in front of other

In the beginning of kindergarten I was a very shy and scared little girl, I did talk to anyone in my class the first day. Needless to say that, while I was excited, I was a little scared of Kindergarten. My teacher, Mrs. Jarman, definitely had her hands full with my class, we were a rowdy bunch. I don’t remember much of kindergarten, but I remember the first day of school. We technically lived outside the school district, and mom didn’t want me to go to Marion City schools, so I was open enrolled to River Valley, and every morning, Mom would take me to school. Usually, she couldn’t pick me up, so my grandma usually did.…

My Worst Education Experience “¿Itzel, Ya estas lista para la escuela?” this was the dreading question my mother would ask me every morning before going to school. I was a bilingual student in the second grade and I was struggling so much academically, which in the long run caused me to have internal struggles. I dreaded going to school every morning and having to put up with 8 hours of feeling like I was born stupid. My teacher, principal, and vice-principal did not have very good faith I was going to be successful and it was the worst feeling in the world that I was forced to be in a environment that I knew I was not brightly looked at. Specifically, in the school I was attending at the time, the bilingual class was looked at very poorly…

To all the doctors, teachers, peers, and family members who didn’t believe I would amount to greatness, thank you. When I was young, I didn’t understand why school seemed more challenging for me than it did for everyone else. I couldn’t discern why I was unable to distinguish my right from my left no matter how many times my teacher sighed and told me it was simple or why I could complete math problems perfectly then copy my answer wrong between the work area and the answer line. In second grade, I was labeled as dyslexic and stuck in the reading recovery class along with all the other ‘troubled students’. Every day I missed free time filled with exciting games such as seven-up and tag, forcibly sat in a room where the lights were just a bit too bright and the chairs a bit too straight, and read aloud.…

Everyone that I have met from K-8th grade where now all going to different school than me so you could only imagine how tough that was one me. Luckily, I soon learned that excellent teachers do not only exist at my other schools. A great example of this would have to be my Math teacher Mrs. Miller. Since moving to this new area really demoralized me I didn’t want to do anything in class but put my hood up and sleep.…

I had no motivation to do anything. I started falling way behind on my school work because I could never convince myself to get out of bed. My family had to put him down the week of finals, so I missed almost all of my finals in my classes, which made my grades suffer even more. Luckily, most of my teachers were really understanding and let me take incompletes in the courses so I was able to complete them after the semester had already ended. I had to go in everyday after school and do all of the make-up work and take all the tests that I had missed.…

The Shade of Education In all of my years as a student I have experience many teaching style and encounter from good to bad teachers. I can recall my parents changing me schools often because we were a family that moved frequently. I met many teachers from different countries, making the experience different from one another. I experienced teachers like the banking concept and attend schools like Rose’s. But attending school wasn’t an option as we grew, throughout our childhood we’re always taught that education is the key to success without the parents having knowledge of the school system.…
