Morality is defined by the principles and beliefs in right or wrong, instinctively engrained in humanity itself. Although morals vary from person to person, cultural groups and society, these basic principles generally remain the same. These principles include not murdering, stealing or slavery among several others. Every day these morals are broken, disregarded over peoples own selfish needs to benefit their own lives without thought for the lives of others. It is evident in history and shown as an example in Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich that the breakdown of morals leads groups and individuals to their own downfall, and a lack of dignity makes existence pointless.

Without these to hold our lives and community together, things spiral into chaos. This is evident in history, as great nations have risen, following strict order and moral guidelines in order to stay intact. These powers have either been conquered by another greater power, or collapsed due to immoral events occurring within the walls.
An example of this is the fall of the fall of Rome. For almost five hundred years, it was the world’s most powerful empire. Many outside factors contributed to this fall, such as attacks from barbarian tribes and the rise of other powers, but perhaps the strongest damage that led to the fall of the empire was from internal forces.
These forces included overspending, as Rome relied so heavily on slaves to uphold it financially that the power suffered an economic crisis, and many wealthy families fled. Taxes were raised to an exorbitant amount, and the empire was divided into two sides: the wealthy and the extremely
