Mob Hysteria in Two Era What caused Mob Hysteria to outbreak after a traumatic event? There were many events where there where part of Mob Hysteria in history. In one event during World War II, when the Japanese Americans were put in prison camps because The Americans thought they were spies for the enemy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor . In the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy Era, in both event people were accused without evidence unless they gave accuse someone to take there place else but if they did not give a name, they would be punished and prosecuted. Fear is shown in the crucible by reflecting on the character When they are charged with witchcraft and end in death by hanging them which also leads Mob Hysteria. This leads to Mob Hysera because fear is brought to many and they accuse innocent people so they don’t receive the punishment. An example of fear shown in the book is when the young girls get caught in the woods and then start telling lies. Said by Mary Warren: “Abby we’ve got to tell witchery a hanging error, a hanging like doing in Boston two years ago, we must tell the truth Abby! You’ll only be whipped for dancing and other things(18)”. This quote demonstrates how fear is brought upon the character in the story because they 're afraid of being hung because of what they did in the forest. False accusations were a major issue throughout both times because many men and woman accused without evidence. Fear was brought on many who were accused because they fear that worse was to come upon them if they were accused of being a communist or a witch .During both events both cause mass causes and many harsh punishments. The Salem witch and The McCarthy era, both have similar points, for example both were being accused with any evidence and punish for no reason.
