These two live in between the towns and are very poor as George struggles to maintain his job as a mechanic, salesman, and a gas station owner. He works harder than anyone else in the book, and yet, he still does not have the riches that everyone in the American Dream have. However, Gatsby, Nick, Tom, Jordan, and Daisy are all the opposite of George and Myrtle Wilson. These characters may be rich but they have obtained their riches differently than the others. Gatsby is what people call a bootlegger and before that he did much more illegal stuff to earn his, now, fortune. Tom and Daisy have worked hard for their fortune and they believe people such as Gatsby doesn’t deserve his fortune because of the way he has earned it. Nick earned his fortune from family that has been passed down to him. He does still work and he is still working hard to move his way up to become the best he can be in the “broker” business.
