Is Orwell A Marxist? Animal Farm is a satire of the Russian Revolution that occurred in 1902 till 1919. It’s a fable where the author uses characters in the book to symbolize real characters in the Russian Revolution. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a fable where Orwell shows his point of view of the Russian Revolution. Each character symbolizes something or someone. The animals overtake their cruel farmer Mr. Jones, and start to rebel. When the rebellion happens, rules are laid out called animalism, but things change when the rules of animalism are ignored and changed by the pigs who control the farm. Someone who supports equality and believes in Karl Marx’s idea. Someone like Orwell, is considered not be a Marxist because he writes about inequality with the pigs and the rest of the farm and showing abuse of power when Napoleon uses people to manipulate the rest of the farm. Orwell is not a Marxist because he shows inequality, while also showing abuse of power with his lead characters. The seventh commandment is that all animals are equal but throughout the book Orwell shows anti-Marxism when he writes about inequality with some animals who are better, at a higher lever and more privileged than other animals.
