Have you ever thought about the privileges you have? Or the ones others have that perhaps you lack? You might be surprised at the amount of privileges that others have. There are different things that are taken into considerations when defining the privileges a certain person may have. For example their race, age, ethnicity, social class and many other factors come into hand.
The first article, “White Privilege and Male Privilege” convers the idea that people who are white have more privileges than most people who are not. For many years there has always been problems with others races thinking that the white men are the most powerful. To an extant this belief has been seen to be true not only are whites seen as the most powerful but as the ones to be treated the best whit little struggle compared to other races. They have

Fortunate individuals continue to fail to realize there is still inequality. They usually rise well above the poverty line, and live relatively economically sound lives. This is true for Brock Turner, a white male former swimmer and student at Stanford University.…

In today’s society, I perceive myself as white, male, heterosexual, able-bodied, upper-class, college-educated, and Jewish. That is a gift in today’s world. I am fortunate to come from a privilege background, but I recently started to have more sense of appreciation of my white privilege ever since I started to take a Gender, Race, and Class course. One of the readings that really caught my eye was “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack” by Peggy Mcintosh, and in her article, she discusses how some people who have white privilege do not seem to recognize the privilege that they have. She gives numerous of examples on how white privilege helps in real life encounters.…

Although male privilege gives many benefits such as power to men, it is no doubt that this privilege taught and encouraged to men ruin their perception of themselves and women. It is clear that male privilege has a huge effect on women, but many individuals do not even come to think that it has become an issue for men as well. In Ellison’s article in Holding up Our Half of the Sky: Male Gender Privilege as Problem and Resource for Liberation Ethics, he states that: “gender privilege affects men’s moral knowledge and agency” (Ellison 95). In this context, agency defines as the ability for an individual to act and make decisions for themselves. Since men are taught to be this strong, powerful, and aggressive character, it teaches them that they…

One privilege is the pay gap which is the difference in the way that men and women are paid. An example of the pay gap is that white women make seventy-eight cents to one dollar of white males, and to make it even more disadvantageous African American, Hispanic, and Native American women had an even more unfortunate pay. These are one of many privileges that men have over women, and the worst part is that men do not realize that they have these privileges. In Privilege, Oppressions, and Difference they said “men can generally assume that when they go out in public, they won’t be sexually harassed or assaulted just because they’re male, and if they were victimized, they won’t be asked to explain what they were doing there. ”(Johnson, Pg. 28)…
