Magical realism is a literary or artistic genre in which realistic narrative and naturalistic technique are combined with surreal element of dream and fantasy. Julio cortazar's “house taken over” is a good example of magical realism because it mixes in with the realism of two resident living in the home. The magic part is they start to hear hear things in other places of the house and starts to spook them. “ the sound came through muted and indistinct, a chair being knocked over onto the carpet or on the muffled buzzing of a conversation”(pg.39).
