Examples Of Love In Romeo And Juliet

The romantic tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, one of the most well known love stories to this day. But, looking closer, people question if love describes this story best, or if these teens have simply been overcome by lust and infatuation. Although Romeo and Juliet are young, and their relationship developed very quickly, their love for eachother shows throughout the play. Wikipedia describes love at first sight as “a personal experience in which a person, character, or speaker feels an instant and extreme romantic attraction for a stranger on the first sight of them.” This is the exact scenario of Romeo and Juliet. Because they commit quickly, take risks for each other, and disregard their families’ feud, Romeo and Juliet not merely infatuated, …show more content…
After only knowing each other for a few hours, Romeo and Juliet prepare to fully disregard the feud between their families in order to be together. For example, Juliet says “Or, if thou wilt not, be sworn my love,/ And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” (Ⅱ.ⅱ.39-40). Juliet is saying that if he will not leave his family for her, but confess his love for her, she will change her identity as a Capulet for love which shows that this is in fact love. Because when someone is merely infatuated, they would not be willing to make such a large commitment. Juliet is defying her family by having a relationship with Romeo which is significant because it seemed like Juliet had a strong bond with her family. Additionally, Romeo later says “Call me but love, and I’ll be new baptized./ Henceforth I never will be Romeo. This is yet another example of how much Romeo is really in love with Juliet because not only did Romeo completely forget about Rosaline at this point but he is also willing to give up more for Juliet than he ever did for Rosaline. Finally, at the end of the night, before Juliet must go inside, she says to Romeo “Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow,”. (Ⅱ.ⅱ.151). It seems like just moments earlier Juliet was indecisive about when she wanted to get married and whether or not she wanted to get married soon or not. Now, she is open to getting married the next day to her family’s enemy 's son. This shows that she really loves Romeo because although he belongs to the Montague or enemy family, she was able to commit to him faster than she could have ever committed to someone else such as Paris who she obviously did not have these feelings

Love and lust. These two things travel closely together and even sometimes overlap. Confusing these two is a common misconception that happens with even the most popular of works. An example of one of these works is Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. It was originally published in 1597 and is arguably Shakespeare’s most known plays.…

Romeo has completely forgot about Rosaline and is in love with Juliet. “With Rosaline, my ghostly Father? No, I have forgot that name and that name’s woe” (II.III.30). He then selfishly asks to marry Juliet and doesn’t even take her father's consent but Friar Lawrence’s. If Romeo wouldn’t have rushed into marrying Juliet so fast and would have thought about it more, then Juliet wouldn’t have had to hide their relationship and risk their live.…

In turn, Romeo does not think his choices through properly because he allows love to control his actions, proving that he is impulsive. Romeo’s bold but risky actions towards falling in love with Juliet result in him marrying her within the day without consent from either family. As for Juliet’s role in this tragedy: “I have no joy of this contract tonight. It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden, too like the lightning, which doth cease to be” (2.2.123) Juliet was well aware of her rash decisions and the consequences they could have, she tries to explain to Romeo that she is afraid that their rash decisions could cause their love to cease to be but soon after that when Romeo woos her she is blinded by her passion and quickly forgets the result it is likely to bring about.…

Shortly after meeting Juliet, he decides that he is in love with her and needs to marry her right away. Romeo explains, “I’ll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, that thou consent to marry us today” (II, iii, 63-64). The act of claiming that he needs to marry Juliet immediately shows how little he thought about making this huge commitment. Marrying a woman who you have only known for one night is completely illogical and in his case will risk causing tensions to rise between their two families. He never asked himself if marrying Juliet was worth all the turmoil it would cause.…

She had never felt deeply and truly loved by either of her parents, and so she turned to the love of a man. Juliet speaks to her alleged love, lamenting, “ parting is such sweet sorrow,” (2.2.252-253). She barely knows this young man, and yet the teenager already feels sorrowful in parting with him. This fact alone definitely displays Juliet’s sense of longing for love from someone. She is stretching to such great extents to feel wanted, that she would change her whole path in order to be with the first man she meets - Romeo.…

It is to be believed that the story of Romeo and Juliet is more a story of lust rather than love. Romeo and Juliet is a story of two youthful teenagers helplessly falling in love, but their love story being destined by fate to end in a tragedy due to the quarrel between their families. There is no reason to indicate that their love is genuine. Their lust is mistaken as love due to Romeo and Juliet’s young age and little experience with personal relationships, believing that their love is true because they want to rebel against their strict parents feud and that the two lovers had only known each other a couple of days before getting married.…

The first reason to prove previous statement true is that, the relationship that Romeo and Juliet had was not true love, because they had no time to even get to know one another because they rushed into getting married, in (Act 2 . Scene 2 . 144-148) “Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, By one that I’ll procure to come to thee, and all my fortunes at thy foot i’ll lay, And follow thee, my lord, throughout the world. ” This quote that was stated by Juliet shows that they were not really in love…
