Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In The Count Of Monte Cristo

The loss of innocence in one’s life can transform them entirely. Everyone must experience the act of losing their innocence; otherwise, they will never grow out of their childish state. In order for someone to learn how to fully take care of themselves, they must first learn to become adults, therefore losing all of the previous innocence they once held. However, it can sometimes be a bad thing. In the beginning of The Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes is an innocent and naïve boy who eventually is escorted to prison for something that he did not do. Here, he learns from a man named Abbe Faria, who acts as a father figure toward Dantes. Dumas states that Faria once says, “Because I have instilled into your heart a feeling that previously held no place there - vengeance” (Dumas 466). Nevertheless, everyone experiences it once they get older. Escaping childhood means many things, one of them being that an individual realizes the troubles of being an adult. As a child, there are few responsibilities.
