Everyday is a fight for life and with the will to live you are one of the strongest people left on Earth. The book The Road by Cormac McCarthy has many examples of life and death situations about a boy and his father during an apocalypse. They want to make a journey to the ocean where it is safer and warmer, but they have to deal with cannibals, hunger and sickness throughout this journey. They end up making it to the ocean and this was only possible from their survival and tactical skills. The father ends up dieing only a little while after they get to their destination. The boy and the father get in many situations where the father hands the boy the pistol and tells him that he needs to shoot himself if they get close to finding him. “If they find you you are going to have to do it” pg. 113. This quote was said by the father because they the boy and him were at a house searching for supplies. They find a door with a padlock and they bust open the lock. The boy and the father go into basement and find a group of naked people in bad condition. The boy and father run out of the basement as fast as they can. The boy looks out the window and he saw four men and two women coming towards the house. The boy and father take off and they go hide. The boy asked his father if they were going to kill them. “Oh my God, he whispered. Oh my God.” pg. 138. This quote was said by the father after his magnificent find. The boy and father were searching a house when the father goes to a shed to get supplies he steps on something that doesn’t feel right. He finds a hidden bunker underground. When he goes into the bunker he finds tons of supplies and food. Earlier in the story before they find the bunker they were starving to death. If they didn’t find the bunker they would have died a slow death of starvation. There is so many cannibals in the story because people are the last thing alive to eat. The boy and father do not want to eat people because they are trying to save the world, not destroy it even more. In a world of only a few people and nothing else, the people aren’t just the threat the smallest things can kill you and to overcome the small things like starvation you have to have good survival
