In the film ‘Stand By Me’ there are a lot of lessons that people need to learn and understand. I am going to Describe and Explain one important lesson from the film. One important lesson that people should learn is that if someone is born into a disadvantaged family that has a bad reputation you shouldn't assume that they will turn out bad as well. Chris, Gordie and Teddy all teach us this lesson throughout this film and I think it is important for us young people to learn it as well, this lesson could change what you think about other kids in disrupted families or it could alter the way you think about your own life.

A real-life example was when a black guy sat inside his car outside this house waiting for his friend to get ready, he was doing nothing wrong. Five minutes later police turned up asking him what he was up to. The Black guy just said, “I'm waiting for a friend, am I doing something wrong, sir?” All he was doing was sitting there in his car. The police officer said “I've had a report that a shady looking man is sitting in his car ducking every time someone walked past” The African American said, “No sir I haven't even ducked once, am I not allowed to sit in my car to wait for my friend?” The police officer ignored the question and asked the man “Can I have a look at your ID” By this time there were cop cars around his vehicle. The man said “sure look at everything” The police searched his car and came up empty handed. This shows that people shouldn't assume thing just because of their cultural

Race relations have been around for decades, and things haven’t changed so much since the incident in Little Rock on September 4th, 1957. Most African Americans still find it hard to be included into the White American society because there are still people in the world that choose not to accept them, due to the color of their skin. They are still being mistreated and judged and people always assume the worst from them in every given situation. In the article, “The Myth of Race” by Agustin Fuentes, he explains the question about human variation and how we can tell everyone apart from each other and how it’s all just a myth. I believe that people who discriminate against anyone of color need to understand that we are all the same on the inside and we are the ones who make the categories between each other.…

The article Tips for Being an Unarmed Black Teen shows how society makes assumptions of people based on their ethnicity. The author uses incongruity and exaggeration in order to show how society judges blacks. Incongruity is to display something that is out of place and absurd in relation to it’s surroundings. This is exhibited in “Be as polite and straightforward as possible when the police officers are kicking the shit out of you.” Therefore, this is stating that because you are black you shouldn't fight back.…

The legacy of racial discrimination and oppression towards people of black descent in America, is one of inequality and mistreatment. In “Being Poor, Black, and American,” William Wilson writes about three types of forces that hinder the progress of blacks in society: political, economic, and cultural. Society’s dialogue on the current socio-economic status of most African Americans leans towards blaming blacks for their own lack of effort and judgment; however, these situations are deeply rooted in factors beyond the control of most ordinary black folk: the government’s deliberate initiatives to create of internal ghettos with project standards of living, the lack of circulation into minority communities, the transition away from a physical…

An example that demonstrates this in-group favoritism is shown by one of the White police officers who is outwardly racist and treats African-American people degradingly. In the beginning of the film it shows him pulling over the wealthy African-American director and his wife for no justifiable reason. He ends up sexually harassing the director’s wife and gets away with it. In addition, he completely disrespects and insults an African-American secretary who works at the doctor’s office where his father is being treated. It can be said that he was engaging in blatant racism because his emotional responses to people who did not belong to the White race were strongly negative and could even be considered as hatred.…
