There are many different types of leaders. All will experiment different levels of success through trial and error. The word “leader” embodies many different meanings. To me, a leader is a mentor, a role model, a good listener, and a person who is willing to correct other’s mistakes. Whenever I’ve found myself in a leadership position, I wouldn’t only try my best to demonstrate these qualities. I would throw my entire being into the responsibility until I felt my duty was done. I’m confident that I possess the qualities that any good leader should, which has been proven through my actions with my family and in the community. I was faced with a difficult time in my freshman year when my biological father was sent to jail. My two half-siblings, a brother in his twenties and a sister in her thirties, were at a loss on how to handle the situation. At the tender age of fourteen, I was required to make decisions that are more appropriate for people far ahead of my age group. I became a leader of my family as I helped them through hard times, which is a task that still falls to me now. I may not have been able to mentor my older siblings, but they have young children who needed someone with a strong set of morals to look up to. This was where I was able to step in and set a good example. Young minds are very impressionable and need a strong figure to follow, which is the role I filled. I may not have been granted the official title of a leader with any gilded decorations, but the satisfaction of knowing that I’d played that part so that someone else could have a brighter future is what truly matters. One of my greatest accomplishments as a leader was simply growing into one. No one is born with the title of a leader, because it’s something that needs to be earned. I believed that I’ve shaped up to be a valuable leader throughout my experiences, which is a position I hold with great respect to those who’ve helped me gain it. There is still time for me to grow in my skills and become an even better leader than I am
