The first and most prominent example of Hamlet’s flaw is perceived during the very first act of the play, in which Hamlet fails to live up to his vow. During scene five, Hamlet encounters the ghost of Old Dead Hamlet, his father. When Hamlet discovers that his father was murdered by Claudius, he promises to him that he shall act swift, meaning that he will murder Claudius, his uncle who is currently King, to avenge Old Dead Hamlet. However, Hamlet is to no avail, as he fears the consequences.
Another example of Hamlet’s lack of action is shown when he fails to kill Claudius, even though the perfect
