On the night that Romeo and Juliet first meet each other, Romeo is ready to swear “by yonder blessed moon”,but Juliet stops him right in his tracks: “do not swear at all; / or if thou wilt, swear by thy gracious self, / which is the god of my idolatry…” (2. 2. 107, 113-114). Shakespeare shows that they both are fast to exclaim their love for each other. Romeo is ready to swear on his love, while Juliet is ready to worship Romeo like a god. Once Romeo finds out that Juliet had the slightest chance of being dead, he has the longing to “descend into this bed of death” (5. 3. 28). Shakespeare obviously strategically placed the fast moving plot here to show that Romeo has been through so much and even the thought of his love being dead would make him suicidal. Shakespeare made both of these characters instantaneous with their actions to keep the story interesting. A great number of juxtaposition is used to keep the story flowing smooth, while adding complexity at the same time.
