In the novel, "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton, was Johnny innocent or guilty in the murder of Bob? In the novel, "The Outsiders" Ponyboy had ran away with Johnny because Ponyboy had got into an argument with his older brother that was his guardian. He ran away to the park and Ponyboy and Johnny ran into the socs. Randy, Bobby, & 3 other Socs drove in a blue mustang taunting Ponyboy and Johnny.Ponyboy spit at the socs, so the socs decided that Ponyboy needed a bath and tried to drown Ponyboy in the fountain. Johnny used a switchblade on Bob because he was going to kill Ponyboy. Some people might argue that Ponyboy had no other choice but to kill Bob. It was Bob's fault that he had tried to drown Ponyboy but Johnny could have avoided the problem and went to get help. …show more content…
Nobody said to Johnny that it was the right thing to do because he should have thought about the consequences he would have to face in the future. Johnny did not end up in trouble because they ran away once again. Afterwards, Johnny and Ponyboy saved kids from a burning down church and became heroes. That is to say, Ponyboy and Johnny got away with it. Following, another reason why johnny is guilty of the murder is that it wasn't in self defense. Self defense is something you do to protect yourself. Johnny was trying to protect his friend and not himself. This pony boy had stabbed Bob it would have been in self defense because Ponyboy was the one who was getting hurt. The socs also knew the faces of who killed their friend. The socs could have also reported Johnny to the police for murdering their friend. In other words, Johnny would have gotten in trouble for the murder of Bob
