According to Col. Eric Kail, the most important facet of a character is integrity. It is what builds trust between relations with people. It is also one of the few traits which its meaning is known between only a small portion of people. Integrity is ethics - doing the right thing. As a leader myself, integrity is one of my strongest leadership aspects. As a drum major in band, I’ve seen over the years how leadership can be highly influential, often just simply passed onto the organization without verbally having to explain what it is you want out of it. Actions are stronger than words, and if your mistake is not something criticized then it will most often be something repeated by the organization you are leading. In summary then, healthy relationships with the customers, employees, owners, and suppliers (the C.E.O.S.) ensure healthy business. Effective leaders understand this simple principle.” (Hunter, 43) Without correct leadership, the group will not function correctly and thus will not meet the set objective. As a leader, there are numerous sacrifices I have brought myself to make in benefit of the group. Under these sacrifices runs ethics throughout, like blood running through veins. As a drum major, I am also a counselor to my band members, discussing personal affairs and brainstorming solutions for those in need. Although they are not problems that affect me directly, it is required of me to be aware of them and their personal status, overall a trait I personally have gradually developed for them. It is crucial for me to handle these situations seriously and professionally, as a figure that they have come to trust in. Without my professionalism and integrity, it is one less person they can look up to and eventually the one that will bring down the

“The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. That 's nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born” (Bennis). Warren Bennis’s quote really opened my eyes as to why I chose George Washington as the overall best president during the antebellum period. Prior to becoming president, Washington gained leadership experience from being Commander in Chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolution, from there he heavily impacted the methodology of the future presidents, in such a positive manner.…

Wes Moore’s leadership attributes are not specific to him. Instead, such attributes as courage, reverence, and loyalty are prevalent in all leaders in society. These characteristics, and more, are all included in the Boy Scouts of America Scout Law: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent (BSA 2016). Only 22 percent of Americans trust our business leaders because of ethical failings and a lack in consistency in words and deeds (Darvish & Rezaei, 2011). Authentic leadership has received a heightened level of research and attention in effort to increase follower satisfaction and commitment in the workplace. Berkovich (2014) recommends a framework of dialogical pedagogy within the organization to develop and support authentic leadership. The strengths of authentic leadership include the increased ability of organizations to obtain higher commitment and performance levels.…
