Integrity- the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. People find this common to have as a personality characteristic if you are pursuing a career, which most people do. Integrity is tied to the workplace and academic matter. If a person can’t uphold this aspect expected then they are not eligible for any career. Hilbert’s study in 1985 was distinctive in linking academic cheating to behavior in the workplace. Building workplace integrity is about creating a workplace that fosters the development of high professional standards, and demonstrates the values of the organization. To accomplish this duty we need to do three things: assess the management of workplaces, identify particular strengths and weaknesses in current practice, and implement practical strategies to build and sustain workplace integrity. Managers and staff are responsible for the integrity of their workplace. Managers and supervisors play an important role in shaping the ethical health of a workplace, and setting the right tone for staff. If the top of the chain doesn’t work together to identify any current or potential integrity concerns this will reflect how the company is as a whole. In assessment there are five key areas considered fundamental to building ethical health: Ethical leadership is the extent to which managers lead by example and create a professional working environment for staff. Second, active management and supervision the extent to which managers take responsibility for the team, and actively manage work performance. Third, the right people to which staff carries out their duties in accordance with the organizations expectations of them. Fourth, effective processes the extent to which risk management processes exist in the work place, and are complied with by staff. Last but not least number five, confident professional reporting the extent to which internal reporting facilitates early detection and contributes to the continuous improvement of the organization. These five key areas are interrelated and when a workplace performs well in each it indicates strong capacity to identify and mange integrity related issues. Again as I said before ethical tone of a workplace must start at the top with managers taking responsibility for building a professional and respectful workplace. (Victoria, December
