The greatest injustice in The Stranger is Marie to be in love with a man who does not love her back and literally loses his head by the end of the story. We begin to see the relationship take shape right after the funeral. They go swimming together and he notices that, “She laughed the whole time.”(20) And she did that throughout the entire book whenever they were together. For instance, on another occasion they were at Meursault’s home having lunch, she laughed. Then she asked if he loved her.
