Examples Of Injustice And Inequality In Thomas More's Utopia

From reading the short passage of Thomas More’s Utopia, I truly believe that injustice and inequality do exist in More’s “good place”, because the people are to follow the rules and roles that they have to go by. Throughout the passage, it seems that men and women can't make their own decisions/choices and can't be equal. They all have to play their roles to keep the Utopia or “good place” in balance, and this is wrong.

According to the text,"The same trade generally passes down from father to son"(More). More shows injustice because he is implying a young boy has to learn a trade from his father. In other words, boys can't learn from their mother, or the mothers aren't capable to teach their boys. Why can't the son learns a trade from his mother and why would it has to be only his dad? This is a sexist attitude like they all have to follow the direct regulations in More's Utopia. Another example will be a girl can't learn a trade like masonry from her father. A girl has to learn a trade from the mother, like clothing and cooking.

Few have traced the path of the development of advertising from the late nineteenth century to 1930. In Russel Johnston’s Selling themselves: the emergence of Canadian advertising his aim is to uncover this path. There are three themes covered throughout Johnson’s synthetic approach to advertising that appear within the chapters, professionalization, the transformation of the industry and the Canadian adworkers relationship to Americans. In Johnston’s work, while he effectively illustrates the development of advertising in Canada through factual evidence and analysis, there are various shortcomings that should have been acknowledged that could efficiently contribute to this field of study.…

Equality 7-2521 and many others have been oppressed their entire lives by this so called ‘utopia’. To ensure that the ‘brothers’ in the society stay equal there are many rules in place to prevent any doubting of the society’s doings. Equality breaks these rules and therefore breaks free of the emotional ties that have been holding him down his entire life. These rules have caused Equality’s brethren into depression, giving them no will to live. This collectivist society has taken away happiness and replaced it with complacency.…

The Utopia of Equality A utopia is an imagined world in which everything is perfect. While many view a utopia as the ideal world, Kurt Vonnegut seeks to question the truth to that in his story “Harrison Bergeron”. The story reflects a perfect society in which everyone is equal, however, Vonnegut questions that reality by demonstrating what occurs when one person tries to act above his fellow citizens. In this political satire on the idea of socialism, Vonnegut points out the fears that would stem from a completely equal world.…

This is saying that women are being paid less even though they are doing the same thing as men. This is important because women deserve to be paid the same as men because they work just as hard and it is not fair that they aren't being treated like they deserve it. This matters because it is a problem that men are inferior to women, and people who treat women differently just because they are a different gender has to stop. Intersectionality is describing the system of inequality people experienced due to their intersecting statuses including race, class, gender, sexuality and so on. The discriminations or advantages they face are the result of the mixture of their multiple statuses. For example, for a black woman, her gender is female and her race is African American, so she experiences discrimination for being black and female simultaneously. For African Americans, they face social stratification, and therefore they experience discrimination regularly. In Joe Feagin’s paper “The Continuing Significance of Race: Antiblack Discrimination in Public Places,” he interviewed a group of black middle-class people about their experiences of discrimination.…

Over time, women have struggled to free themselves of systematic oppression that prevents them from achieving and succeeding in society. In the poem “It’s a Woman’s World”, Eavan Boland is an examination on the status of women in society. The title, which is an allusion to the James Brown song “It’s a Man’s World”, suggests that Boland believes that women are superior to men regarding status in society. However, the content of the poem promptly proceeds to contradict the title. Throughout Boland’s poem, the speaker reveals that in a “woman’s world”, women are overlooked and their status remains unchanged in the community.…
