On September 11, 2001, 19 men associated with Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airlines full of passengers and carried out suicide attacks each intended for monumental structures. At 8:46 a.m. American airlines flight 11 traveling from Boston strikes the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City near the 60th floor, the collision caused a massive explosion trapping hundreds of people inside of the building. Airport security is one of the biggest that changed dramatically. Two months after 9/11 congress federalized airport security by passing the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which created the Transportation Security Administration, ever since then airports required undercover air marshals, and TSA screeners, and enhanced pat downs if necessary. New security technology was introduced and also passengers were subject to much more screening strategies some which also included not being able to wear shoes at checkpoints and not being able to take any type of liquids on the airplanes.
