At face value, the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tells of a knight who is challenged by a Green Knight to show the decline in the knighthood, but that is only the literal interpretation. Throughout the story, there are many parallels to the Christian faith seen. The Green Knight places the young knight in a trial just like God might do to Christians. The Green Knight mentions that if Gawain seeks him, then he will be found which is very similar to when Christ says that if we seek, we shall find. The motif of the number three as seen in the Bible for example Peter denying Christ three times and Christ rising after the third day is seen, as well.…
Although Christ sets a standard of perfection, the judgment does not solely rest on reaching…
It is inevitable that no sin goes unpunished; everyone will be judged by others and have to answer to a higher power some day. Often it is within human nature that some believe that their sins go unpunished.…
The Christian subculture, in particular the Protestant, Baptist division is a subculture of those that hold the same value, symbol and practices of the Baptist denomination of Christianity. This subculture allows individuals to separate themselves from not only the American society as a whole but also everyone in the Christianity religion that doesn’t necessarily share the same values as them but to connect with those that do. Often times when you think of christianity the first things that come to mind is the many negative stereotypes, such as hypocrites, uptight, judgmental, and homophobic. These stereotypes are pretty accurate for the member of the subculture, in particular the older generation.…
An example, Saul; Saul disobeyed God and he lost everything. In Chapter 3, Bridges focuses on how holiness is not an option. In scripture there is a comparison of being holy before and after salvation. Before being saved we have holiness in finding redemption and forgiveness from God.…
Rewind 1950 years. At this time, a movement involving only a handful of nations was gaining strength. A people that were discriminately called Christians were spreading their ideas and experiences. These people were looked down upon, persecuted, and hated by the majority around them. They preached something entirely different than what the rest of the world had heard before: a message of love and grace and acceptance no matter the circumstance.…
The doctrine of depravity says that man is as bad off as he can be. There is a vast difference between being as bad as he can be, and being as bad off as he can be. The doctrine of depravity has to do, not with man’s estimation of man, but rather with God’s estimation of man. (Pentecost 9-10) The doctrine of depravity has to do not so much with man’s conduct as with man’s state.…
The Outcast “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37 Kit was a young girl who moved from Barbados to Connecticut in the late 1600’s because her grandfather died. She lived with her aunt and family and became friends with a lady who everyone thought was a witch. One day Kit was teaching a bible story for kids, and decided to play act it. This upset the school master, he fired her, and Kit ran into the Meadows crying.…
helps to win over any audience. An amusing story like this is easy to share with practically anyone, even your Bible-study group. Pathos uses the anticipation of a next false action of one of these Christians, while amusement from the events keeps you involved and entertained. In conclusion, I believe the author was able to provide numerous examples of people committing all of the deadly sins in a bake sale as an example of how hypocritical Christians can be.…
Perhaps, the majority of today’s society has done that when it comes to the Son of God, Jesus. Furthermore, those who believe in a God believe in a loving God, a loving God would not chastise anyone, nor send anybody to hell for that matter. Therefore, if the Son of God is not what he said He was and there is no Eternal damnation, why should they contemplate the seriousness of the Gospel? It is a matter of trust in Jesus as the Son of God. What are some specific moral reasons people may reject the Christian gospel?…
In the verses in the chapter before verse 1, it says, “who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.” It is saying that as Christians we need to purify ourselves by keeping our lives pure in living in a godly way.…
Over the past couple of weeks I have been traveling down the wonderful road of Worldview. I will be straightforward, I had no idea what the term Worldview meant when the class started, therefore I didn’t know what to expect. However, the hilarious thing about Worldview is that there is not an exact definition of Worldview in my estimation. The best explanation of worldview I have found goes as follows, “A person’s worldview is the overall perspective from which he or she views and interprets the world. It can also include the beliefs about life and the universe held by a group (such as a Christian worldview).…
Norman L. Geisler, one of the founders of Veritas Evangelical Seminary and Southern Evangelical Seminary, presents a Christian view of how to deal with consequences in conjunction with divine command theory in his article entitled Any Absolutes? Absolutely! (Geisler, 1995) In previous writings, Geisler tries to critique the various branches of ethics, and he goes forward to argue the Divine Command ethics theory and with the Divine Command from a Christian perspective through the Bible. There are six approaches to critiquing conflicting moral absolutes, including Generalism, which states that there exist only general moral laws, but they are not absolute.…
“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.” (English Standard Version Matthew 15:19). If God did not come to save us, these sins would take over us and we would be eternally separated from…
We know this to be true because christianity is made up of people with real hearts and emotions. We are made up to be smaller versions of christ in the ways we interact with others. Many christians are able to show the love and forgiveness, but even if others turn their backs on us we can always look towards God. As christians it is easier for us to show forgiveness and spread the word, because know how it feels to be forgiven for everything. I agree in totally with the part of the quote that says, “following Christ and shaping our world, is to announce redemption to a world that has discovered its fallenness”.…
