Examples Of Hypocrisy In The Crucible

In Massachusetts women were accused of being witches, for vengeance and were put to death after doing nothing wrong. The Crucible is a book about a group of girls lead by a devious girl named Abigail, who start a crazy movement in which everyone is being accused of witchcraft. John Proctor is a hypocrite in the beginning of the book but does not realize his hypocrisy until after the emotional wall he has built was broken down because of the witch trials. After Hale has entered Proctors house he starts accusing him “In the book of record that Mr. Parris keeps, I note that you are rarely in church on Sabbath Day… Twenty-six time in seventeen month sir…” Hale accuses Proctor of not going to church enough and Proctor denies it. Proctor also makes excuse for why he has not gone. Hale asks Proctor about his children and says, “How comes it that only two are baptized?” Proctor makes up another excuse about how he doesn't want Parris to baptize them.
