In Barnes and Noble, I observed an older gentleman in the integrity vs. despair psychosocial stage (Wong, Hall, Justice, & Hernandez, 2015). He was a very bubbly, contagiously joyous, and content individual who wanted to share his joy with everyone. He also seemed to be a very strong and resilient individual who coped with challenges in life using humor, which he displayed during my observation. According to Birren, Cunningham & Yamamoto (1983), humor is a strategy that individuals use to cope with life stressors. He walked into Barnes and Noble with who appeared to be his daughter.…

Humor is inevitable, it is around us every day and few people take the time to consider why we laugh. Darwin had theorizes about the social role of laughter, making suggestions that certain vocal expressions most often linked to internal emotional states may also function as a way of influencing others. That is truly a fascinating theory to say because humor can be seen as a foundation to team building. The two professions we’ve been looking at are heavily dependent on their co-workers who act as a family around one another all for the better interest of those in need of medical attention. Humor is found in almost every setting of a firefighter’s day and the nurses’ hospital.…

This sketch was one of the many moments Saturday Night Live as particularly feminist. Fey and Poehler, along with writer and performer Seth Meyers pointed out the fact that the way American politics was sexist; they were not going to remain quiet about, instead they pointed it out through a parody and got people thinking about the qualifications of the candidates rather than their sex. Another humorous feminist moment during the 2008 election was when Fey guest starred during a Weekend Update segment and called out people for calling Hillary Clinton “a bitch,” and, “along with heavily pregnant feminist bestie Poehler, turned her rant into a legendary tirade. She said yeah, Clinton was a bitch, and so was she, and so was Poehler, because “bitches get shit done”, turning an insult into a rallying cry” (Henderson). Fey and Poehler do so much for feminism, they do it with humor and sass but they get people thinking about women’s rights and get others to reassess how they view women.…

Based on this theory, humor is used to generate a feeling of superiority over the target or butt of the joke whereby the butt loses face; therefore, it could contain disparagement and hostility. This view of humor is believed to be developed by Plato and Aristotle at the beginning (Reimann, 2010; Kochersberger, 2012). Since, Aristotle and Plato admitted that people got pleasure from others' misfortunes, inadequacies, and incapacities, because they were not suffering the same problems; in other words, they were in a superior position compared to individuals being ridiculed (Ermida, 2009; Palmer, 2003). However, the philosopher Thomas Hobbes is known to be the founder of the superiority theory (Berger & Wildavsky, 1994; Dean, 2003; Ross, 2005).…

Humor has its many uses, such as a “buffer against depression and hopelessness” as suggested by psychologist Daniela S. Hugelshofer. Or help us ease the tension, and help everyone cope with our current situations. Most humor that tends to those needs are often simple slapstick jokes that the general population finds amusing. Comedy has also been used to point out serious social issues through the use of the humor’s less understood brother, Satire. Which is all about ridiculing people’s and social’s views to expose some truth to the listeners, hopefully.…

Wouldn’t you say the best humor is the kind you relate to? Like the moment when the girl on T.V, dancing on a table, falls off; you get that deep gut laugh because a similar embarrassing memory is emerging and it takes you back to the time when the phrase “I feel your pain” became literal. Humor is all around. Even little babies who have no concept of what humor is — let alone how to spell or function on their own — know that a fart can be funny. Humor has no hold on age, gender, race, or culture.…

Part I begins by delving into the underlying explanation for why we as humans laugh at the times we do. The first of these is humans. Humor revolves completely around humans or human characteristics. People do not find inanimate objects or animals doing natural actions to be amusing, unless it has a human quality to it. This would include things such as a cat doing something said to be human like tripping over something or a dog sounding like it is talking.…
