The Outsiders Essay:

I believe that Darry is the real hero in the book because he had to take care of two kids by himself at an early age. He also had to work two jobs to make enough money to keep Soda and Ponyboy in school and eating well. He also looked after not only his brothers but also other people in their gang because he was the strongest. I also think he is the real hero because even though Ponyboy and Soda may not like it he is really strict so they can stay a family and not be separated. Also so Ponyboy can finish school and go to college to have a better life.

Darry is a hero for many reasons one of them being that when his parents died in a car crash he had to grow up early and has to take care of two children by himself. While

He was a very hard worker and worked all the time. He worked so hard that he would often come home in pain because of hurt back trying to lift too much. What type of 20 year old already has back problems; so this shows how hard he had to work for his age. It also shows heroism when Ponyboy is refusing to admit the truth about what happened to Dally and Johnny, and is living in a haze, not really caring about anything so Darry tells him, "You're not going to drop out...but schoolwork's not the point. You're living in a vacuum, Pony, and you're going to have to cut it out. Johnny and Dally were our buddies, too, but you don't just stop living because you lose someone...You don't quit!" this shows that even though Darry is sad and acknowledges that two of his good friends have died but he also knows that life must go on. Darry shows heroism in this by realizing that something bad has happened and he is trying to help Ponyboy come back to real life and move on because what’s done is done and you cant go back.

Darry shows heroism in his life choices too. He could have been a soc as Ponyboy said but he chooses to stay as a greaser because that’s where his family is. This is heroism because he is putting others before himself. He also could have continued high school and gone to college on a football scholarship but instead he dropped out to
