Would the Barber be a hero or a coward if he had killed Captain Torres?

In many situations, people and murderers themselves have adapted to the fact that killing is not an easy act to perform. Hernando Tellez in “Just Lather, That’s all” portrays the barber as a very heroic and calculated person. In this story, the barber killed Captain Torres to save the rebels from the organization that he had belonged to called the revolutionary, and he avenged the death of the rebels that were brutally murdered by Captain Torres. Both concepts support the fact that the barber is a hero for killing Captain Torres, but it could also bring trouble to the life of the barber in the long run. Never the less, The barber did what he had to do which is murder

The first point that supports the fact that this is an act of heroism is that the barber is avenging the deaths of the rebels that were killed by Captain Torres. In paragraph twelve, the barbers internal thoughts stated “His name was Torres-Captain Torres…A man of imagination, because who else would have thought of hanging the naked rebels and holding target practice on their bodies.” In analysis, This proves that Captain Torres is a cruel and brutal person and it also shows the cruel acts that Captain Torres performs on the bodies of naked rebels. In addition, this quote shows that Captain Torres deserved to die after what he had done to previous rebels, his actions show a wide range disrespect towards the revolutionary and the families of the rebels he killed. This also shows how the barber avenged the death of the rebels, by killing Captain Torres. All in all, it proves the barber being a hero because he is taking his revenge for Captain Torres’s cruel behaviour on behalf of the town and the revolutionary. The second point is that the barber will be saving the fourteen men caught. In paragraph 6, the barber asks Captain Torres “How many did you catch?” and Captain Torres replies by saying “Fourteen.” In analysis, this quote proves that Captain …show more content…
There is a handful of outcomes from this topic that would make it look like the barber is a hero or a coward, but in my opinion after weighing down each idea, I came to a final decision that this is an act of heroism. There are many people who would say that this is an act of cowardice because he killed an unarmed man, but they do not realise that the barber did it for a reason, and that reason is to avenge what Captain Torres did. It doesn’t matter how the murder was performed, all that matters is the reason. There are many people in the world that died after doing what they think is right, examples being Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. Even if the barber dies as a fugitive, he still died after doing what he thinks is right and that is going to make the barber’s legacy continue throughout the upcoming generations, but will the death of Captain Torres put the Barber’s life in danger? Is killing always the answer? Will the barber be guilty his whole life for killing Captain Torres? Was killing after all, an act of

Mr. Tellez’s story ‘Ashes for the Wind’ reveals just how far people go for what they believe in. An excellent example of the bravery of Juan and his family is when one of the police men accompanying Simon Arevalo’s son told Juan “They’d better clear out.” Juan’s wife responded “They’ll have to kill us!” to Juan later that night when he told her. Juan thought that the government should have no concern with his neighborhood since it’s a poor area.…

When you think of a stereotypical prince or hero, you probably think of some player going after a girl who doesn’t really want him, they fight about it, she finds out he’s the hero (or the chosen one), and suddenly they’re together at the end. This is exactly how Benedick’s story goes in Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare, which shows that he is almost the perfect display of stereotypical hero. So with that in mind, the real hero of Much Ado About Nothing is Benedick as he exhibits classic hero characteristics, and he ultimately fixed the problem at the end of the book while still getting the girl. In the beginning of Much Ado About Nothing, Benedick is introduced as this douchey playboy that Beatrice wants absolutely nothing to…

In both of “The Banality of Heroism” and “The fair deserve the grape” slides, oppression is considered a major common problem. The history of the issue results in repetitive and social injustices in which both have been wide spread across the globe. However, these types of injustice mainly focus on age, racial backgrounds (Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) and specific gender quality (male or female). Even though these people respond to different types of oppression, the oppression, as you see here, is a common problem in both of these slides because it tries to gain the social and economic dominance from victims as well as inflicting pain towards them to get what the oppressors want.…

Heroes sacrifice time, energy, and even sometimes their lives for the good of others. One example of a hero doing this is Welles Crowther, more commonly known as the man in the red bandana. On the dreadful day of September 11, 2001, Welles was going to what he thought was going to be a normal day at work in the South Tower. “According to survivors, Welles helped to save as many as 12 people on September 11th”(“The Man In The Red Bandana”). After United flight 175 hit the South Tower, Welles sprung into action as any good hero would.…
