In many situations, people and murderers themselves have adapted to the fact that killing is not an easy act to perform. Hernando Tellez in “Just Lather, That’s all” portrays the barber as a very heroic and calculated person. In this story, the barber killed Captain Torres to save the rebels from the organization that he had belonged to called the revolutionary, and he avenged the death of the rebels that were brutally murdered by Captain Torres. Both concepts support the fact that the barber is a hero for killing Captain Torres, but it could also bring trouble to the life of the barber in the long run. The first point that supports the fact that this is an act of heroism is that the barber is avenging the deaths of the rebels that were killed by Captain Torres. In paragraph twelve, the barbers internal thoughts stated “His name was Torres-Captain Torres…A man of imagination, because who else would have thought of hanging the naked rebels and holding target practice on their bodies.” In analysis, This proves that Captain Torres is a cruel and brutal person and it also shows the cruel acts that Captain Torres performs on the bodies of naked rebels. In addition, this quote shows that Captain Torres deserved to die after what he had done to previous rebels, his actions show a wide range disrespect towards the revolutionary and the families of the rebels he killed. This also shows how the barber avenged the death of the rebels, by killing Captain Torres. All in all, it proves the barber being a hero because he is taking his revenge for Captain Torres’s cruel behaviour on behalf of the town and the revolutionary. The second point is that the barber will be saving the fourteen men caught. There is a handful of outcomes from this topic that would make it look like the barber is a hero or a coward, but in my opinion after weighing down each idea, I came to a final decision that this is an act of heroism. There are many people who would say that this is an act of cowardice because he killed an unarmed man, but they do not realise that the barber did it for a reason, and that reason is to avenge what Captain Torres did. It doesn’t matter how the murder was performed, all that matters is the reason. There are many people in the world that died after doing what they think is right, examples being Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. Even if the barber dies as a fugitive, he still died after doing what he thinks is right and that is going to make the barber’s legacy continue throughout the upcoming generations, but will the death of Captain Torres put the Barber’s life in danger? Is killing always the answer? Will the barber be guilty his whole life for killing Captain Torres? Was killing after all, an act of
