Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf

Heroes character are shown through the actions that they do and the way that they do that whether that be helpful actions in an arrogant way and vicious way or bad actions with the good intentions everything is shown through a hero's actions bill in the book Beowulf conducts himself in a very arrogant way and being brave other puts Beowulf and as a character but the spotlight in order to make him be brave he uses direct characterization in order to show that every hero has a flaw.
The character Beowulf a brave and courageous man in the epic of Beowulf. Beowulf boast about how tough and fierce and how Grendel a fiend that existed at that time that everyone was afriad is no match for him and he explains himself and his crew of men as,"His father's warrior were wound round his heart/ With golden rings, bound to their prince/ By his father's treasure. He makes the decision that he will fight Grendel and then he begins to boast about what he will do to Grendel and how he will fight him and says,” then in a fury, he flung his sword away. The knee inlaid, worn loop patterned steel hurled to the ground he would rely on his arms.” (107) He wasn’t very subtle about the way that he conducted himself because a hero that is in it to make the kingdom better they simply do at no cost. Yet Beowulf seems very in touch to what he does and makes sure to make himself the center of attention. Later he begins to talk about the times that he fought in the lands of the Danes explaining it as, “ I avenged so no earthly offspring of Grendel’s need ever boast of that bout before dawn.”(137) The author uses first person point view in this section in order to put emphasize on the fact that Beowulf wants to make sure that he gets the credit that he wants.
