The character Beowulf a brave and courageous man in the epic of Beowulf. He makes the decision that he will fight Grendel and then he begins to boast about what he will do to Grendel and how he will fight him and says,” then in a fury, he flung his sword away. The knee inlaid, worn loop patterned steel hurled to the ground he would rely on his arms.” (107) He wasn’t very subtle about the way that he conducted himself because a hero that is in it to make the kingdom better they simply do at no cost. Yet Beowulf seems very in touch to what he does and makes sure to make himself the center of attention. Later he begins to talk about the times that he fought in the lands of the Danes explaining it as, “ I avenged so no earthly offspring of Grendel’s need ever boast of that bout before dawn.”(137) The author uses first person point view in this section in order to put emphasize on the fact that Beowulf wants to make sure that he gets the credit that he wants.
