The Heroes of Today Giving up is what most people want to do when a problem seems too difficult to solve. There are many obstacles in life that seem too high to jump over, but there are always people who persevere. Lucas Benitez, Claire Dundee, and Peter Zucca are all examples of those people who have the courage to go above and beyond. All of them shared one goal: success. Each and every one of them has gone through a different problem, but they are similar in a few ways. They identified the problem by using their own experiences and the way they saw that others were treated. This caused each of these people to come up with a solution. When it came to identifying the problem, all of them incorporated their own as well as the experiences of others that they witnessed. Lucas Benitez, who is a tomato picker from Florida, had enough courage to stand up to his unruly boss to do what was right. Lucas’s boss, tried to punch him when he refused to unload a truck. The author who wrote about Lucas’s story, Sun Sentinel, describes the way Lucas and his coworkers were treated. “They were often treated brutally, were sometimes kept in slave-like conditions.” This sparked inspiration in Lucas to start standing up for the cruel treatment that tomato pickers had to endure. Claire Dundee, a sixteen year old girl scout, recognized a problem that others faced.
