After he got his wife in trouble and many other innocent people he would not say anymore to the court system. He realized what he did his stubbornness, and guilt is what killed this man because he would not talk.
John proctor a good man with a pregnant wife was accused of many things that put him in deep trouble. Before his execution he was asked and begged by his wife and other important figures in the town to plead guilty so he would not die. After thinking about it he decided that he was not a liar he was a christian man and he was not going
to tell a lie. He died because of his own personal guilt and not wanting to tell a lie to save his life.
The role of guilt in The Crucible is to give the story a better more dramatic plot.
Guilt adds many key parts in the story like how Giles, and John gave up their lives. We can learn that the way it was back then is a lot different than it is today. We can learn that sometimes it may be the right time to lie if we were in a situation like someone in the story.
In the Crucible there is guilt all through the story and it serves many purposes to make the story better and to show more feelings. John and Giles really didn’t need
